🧮 Comparing a root canal and crown? Build an itemised estimate before comparing clinic quotes.Calculate my price →

Updated 29 August 2026 · GetClinicTurkey Editorial · General planning information, not a diagnosis or emergency service.

Root canal treatment in Turkey can start at a low headline price, but the procedure is rarely the whole bill. The tooth may also need imaging, a build-up, a crown and a review—and an active infection should not wait while you search for the cheapest flight.

This guide separates the endodontic treatment from the restoration that follows it, compares Turkey with current NHS England charges and explains when travelling for one tooth is poor value.

Quick answer: GetClinicTurkey’s 2026 planning floor is €80 per tooth for root canal treatment. Add at least €150 for a zirconia crown only when it is clinically indicated. For a single tooth, local care is often more practical once travel and aftercare are counted.

What is root canal treatment?

Root canal treatment—also called endodontic treatment—treats inflammation or infection inside a tooth. The American Association of Endodontists describes the basic sequence as removing the pulp tissue, cleaning, disinfecting and shaping the canals, then filling and sealing the space.

The goal is to keep a restorable natural tooth rather than extract it. Treatment does not make every damaged tooth saveable. A vertical root fracture, inadequate remaining structure, severe periodontal problems or an unrestorable cavity may change the plan. That decision requires examination and appropriate imaging, not a WhatsApp photograph alone.

Root canal treatment Turkey cost in 2026

Our approved planning floor is €80 per treated tooth. It is a starting point for comparison, not a universal clinic quote and not a per-canal promise.

Item GetClinicTurkey 2026 planning figure Important limitation
Initial root canal treatment From €80 per tooth Molar anatomy and complexity can increase the quote
Root canal + zirconia crown From €230 combined €80 floor + €150 crown floor; actual treatment may cost more
Root canal + E-max crown From €280 combined €80 floor + €200 crown floor; material must suit the tooth
Retreatment Case-specific quote Existing filling material, posts, missed anatomy and infection change complexity

The maths matters. A clinic advertising a root canal and zirconia crown below €230 is beneath our current combined planning floors and should itemise what is missing. A more expensive quote is not automatically excessive; it may include specialist treatment, CBCT where justified, a core, removal of a post, temporary work or follow-up.

Per tooth and per canal are different prices

Front teeth often have one canal. Premolars and molars may have more complex internal anatomy. Some clinics quote one fee per tooth; others vary the fee by tooth type or number of canals. Before comparing two prices, ask:

A €80 treatment line and a €230 root-canal-plus-crown minimum are not competing prices. One is endodontic treatment alone; the other begins to account for restoring the tooth.

What may be missing from the quote?

Ask for the tooth number, diagnosis, procedure, restoration and total in writing. “Root canal included” is not enough if the clinic has not explained what happens above the gum after the canals are sealed.

Turkey cost vs NHS England in 2026

From 1 April 2026, NHS dental charges in England are £76.60 for Band 2 and £332.10 for Band 3. NHS guidance places root canal treatment in Band 2. If a crown is required, the course may move into Band 3.

Route Published patient charge or planning floor What the number does not tell you
NHS England root canal course Band 2: £76.60 Access, eligibility and whether the tooth is suitable for treatment
NHS England course including a crown Band 3: £332.10 The highest relevant band normally applies to the course
Turkey root canal From €80 Travel and the definitive restoration are separate unless stated

This is why “Turkey is 70% cheaper” would be dishonest for every root canal patient. If appropriate NHS care is available, flying abroad may cost more. Turkey may become financially relevant when access is limited, private alternatives are much higher, you are already travelling, or the root canal is one part of a larger necessary plan. Clinical suitability comes first.

Is it worth flying to Turkey for one root canal?

Usually not for price alone. Add airfare, hotel, transfers, food, time off work, diagnostic uncertainty and possible return care. A local dentist can review symptoms, adjust the bite and respond if pain returns without another international trip.

Travel can be a reasonable comparison when several necessary procedures are coordinated, an endodontic specialist with the required expertise has reviewed the case, or you will already be in Turkey long enough for treatment and review. It becomes a weak plan when the saving exists only because aftercare and the crown were omitted.

Do not wait for a flight with a suspected abscess. The NHS says a dental abscess needs urgent dental treatment and will not go away on its own. Difficulty breathing, speaking or swallowing, eye involvement or extensive mouth swelling requires emergency care—not medical tourism planning.

One visit or two?

Clinic marketing often presents “single-session root canal” as automatically superior. The evidence is more nuanced. A Cochrane review covering 47 studies found no evidence that single-visit or multiple-visit treatment was generally more effective based on the main longer-term comparisons. Multiple-visit care may reduce pain during the first week in some cases, while evidence for several other outcomes was uncertain.

The correct schedule depends on the tooth and diagnosis. Infection, drainage, complex anatomy, retreatment, persistent symptoms and the restoration plan may alter the sequence. Ask why your case is being assigned one or more visits rather than shopping for the shortest promise.

Stage What happens Travel implication
Diagnosis History, examination, tests and imaging Remote estimate may change in person
Endodontic treatment Isolation, cleaning, shaping, disinfection and sealing May take one or multiple appointments
Restoration Direct filling, onlay or crown according to remaining structure Laboratory work can add days
Review Symptoms, bite and temporary/final restoration checked Keep a buffer before departure

Do you need a crown afterwards?

Not every root-treated tooth automatically needs the same crown. Remaining tooth structure, tooth position, cracks, previous restorations, contacts and bite all matter. A review of clinical literature identifies remaining structure, tooth location, proximal contacts, timing of the final restoration and cracks among the factors influencing survival.

Back teeth that have lost substantial structure may need cuspal coverage, but “root canal equals zirconia crown” is too simplistic. The alternative might be a direct restoration, onlay or another design. Ask the dentist to show which walls remain and why the proposed restoration is the least destructive predictable option.

If a crown is indicated, compare materials in our dental crowns in Turkey guide. Our planning ranges are €150–300 for zirconia and €200–350 for E-max.

If extraction is proposed, a tooth-supported or adhesive bridge may also enter the discussion. Compare units and supporting-tooth preparation in our dental bridges in Turkey guide.

Root canal vs extraction and implant

A painful or infected tooth should not be funnelled automatically toward the clinic’s most expensive package. Root canal treatment, retreatment, endodontic surgery, extraction, a bridge or an implant may be discussed depending on restorability and prognosis.

A systematic review comparing endodontic treatment with implant-supported crowns found broadly similar long-term survival for root canal treatment and single implant crowns, while direct comparison was limited by different outcome definitions. That does not prove the treatments are interchangeable. An implant requires extraction and surgery; root canal treatment attempts to retain the natural tooth.

Ask for the reasons the tooth can or cannot be saved. If extraction is proposed from a photograph without testing or review by a suitable clinician, get an independent opinion before proceeding. Our dental implants in Turkey guide explains the separate surgical timeline and costs.

When to ask for an endodontist

General dentists perform many root canal treatments. Referral to an endodontist may be useful for complex anatomy, retreatment, calcified canals, persistent disease, difficult diagnosis, dental trauma, procedural complications or teeth with uncertain restorability. The AAE describes endodontists as dentists with additional training focused on diagnosing tooth pain and treating the inside of teeth.

Ask for the treating clinician’s full name before paying. “Our specialist will be assigned on arrival” is weak evidence. For a complex case, request the clinician’s role, the imaging reviewed and the plan if the tooth proves unrestorable.

If toothache starts during a holiday rather than a planned treatment trip, our emergency dentist in Fethiye guide covers local assessment, emergency warning signs and the first-visit cost questions.

Recovery and flying home

Some tenderness after treatment can occur. The AAE advises contacting the treating clinician for severe pain or pressure lasting more than a few days, visible swelling, an uneven bite, loss of a temporary filling or crown, an allergic reaction, or return of previous symptoms.

A root canal itself is not sinus surgery, but flying immediately after the last appointment removes your adjustment and review window. Keep at least a practical buffer day where possible, especially if a temporary or crown has just been fitted. Do not board with uncontrolled pain, spreading swelling or systemic symptoms simply because the ticket is non-refundable.

Records to bring home

These records matter if a dentist at home needs to review pain, assess healing or replace a restoration. Read our Turkey dental guarantee and aftercare guide before treating a verbal promise as coverage.

Ten questions to ask before booking

  1. Which tooth needs treatment and what is the diagnosis?
  2. Can the tooth be predictably restored, and what alternatives were considered?
  3. Is the quote per tooth, per canal or per appointment?
  4. Is this first-time treatment or retreatment?
  5. Who will perform it and are they an endodontist?
  6. Which imaging is required and why?
  7. Is a core, onlay or crown included?
  8. Why is one visit or multiple visits appropriate?
  9. How much time is reserved for review before I fly?
  10. What happens if the tooth cannot be saved after examination?

How to compare clinics

Use our Turkey dental clinic directory to build a shortlist, then verify the legal clinic, address and treating clinician independently. A high review score does not diagnose the tooth or prove specialist skill.

Apply the 12 checks before paying a Turkey dental deposit. Compare identical denominators and insist that every revision after examination produces a new written plan and price.

The honest verdict

Turkey can offer a lower private price for root canal treatment, especially when it is one necessary part of a larger dental plan. But a single root canal is a poor product to choose by destination first. Diagnosis is time-sensitive, the definitive restoration matters, and follow-up is easier close to home.

Save the tooth when it is predictably saveable, do not delay an urgent infection for travel, and compare the total restored-tooth cost—not the smallest number in an advert.

Compare the whole tooth, not one line item. Start with the €80 root-canal floor, add the clinically indicated restoration and travel costs in our Turkey dental price calculator.

Frequently asked questions

How much does root canal treatment cost in Turkey in 2026?

GetClinicTurkey uses €80 per tooth as the current planning floor for root canal treatment. Complex molars, retreatment, specialist care, imaging, a post or core and the final restoration can increase the total. A zirconia crown adds €150–300 and an E-max crown adds €200–350 when clinically appropriate.

Is it worth travelling to Turkey for one root canal?

Usually not for price alone. Flights, accommodation, diagnosis, review and possible crown work can outweigh the saving. It may be reasonable when the treatment forms part of a larger necessary plan or you are already in Turkey, but an urgent infection should not be delayed to fit travel dates.

Can a root canal be completed in one visit in Turkey?

Some cases can be completed in one visit and others need two or more. A Cochrane review found no evidence that either schedule is generally more effective; the correct schedule depends on diagnosis, infection, anatomy, symptoms and the clinician's judgement. Do not choose a clinic only because it promises one visit.

Do I always need a crown after root canal treatment?

Not automatically. The decision depends on the tooth, how much structure remains, cracks, existing restorations, contacts and bite. Back teeth with substantial structural loss often need cuspal protection, but the dentist should explain why a crown, onlay or direct restoration is appropriate for that tooth.

What is root canal retreatment?

Retreatment reopens a previously treated tooth to investigate persistent or recurrent disease, clean the canal system again and reseal it where feasible. It can be more complex than first-time treatment, and a specialist assessment may be sensible before choosing extraction or an implant.

Can I fly after root canal treatment?

Routine root canal treatment does not create the same pressure concern as sinus surgery, but comfort and complications still matter. Keep time for a review, do not fly with uncontrolled pain or spreading swelling, and follow the treating dentist's case-specific advice.
