A dental implant package can be advertised as a three-day operation while the biological treatment takes months. The confusion disappears when you separate implant placement, healing, temporary teeth and the final crown or bridge.

Leeds Teaching Hospitals describes implant integration as commonly taking two to six months. Guy’s and St Thomas’ outlines several stages and says patients in its typical pathway wait at least three months before the implant supports replacement teeth. These are reference pathways, not personalised promises.
What “one trip” can actually mean
Surgery only
The implant is placed during one journey and the final restoration is completed by another dentist at home. This requires compatible components, shared records and a home dentist who agrees before treatment starts.
Surgery plus a temporary tooth
A temporary removable tooth or bonded provisional may cover the gap while the implant heals. It may not load the implant directly.
Immediate temporary loading
A temporary crown or full-arch bridge is attached soon after surgery when clinical conditions allow. It normally has dietary and bite restrictions while healing occurs.
Immediate final restoration
This is a more specific claim. Ask why it is appropriate, what the material is, how fit and bite are verified, and what contingency applies if the implant does not achieve the required initial stability.
Why bone grafting changes the schedule
An implant needs adequate bone in the correct position. If a defect is significant, grafting may happen before implant placement. Cambridge University Hospitals says graft healing commonly takes four to six months; after implant placement, further healing is needed before the final restoration.
Smaller grafts can sometimes be performed at implant placement. A panoramic X-ray alone may not answer every three-dimensional bone question. Ask whether CBCT imaging is needed, what graft material is proposed and whether grafting is included in the quote.
Single implants and full-arch cases are not the same
A single implant crown must integrate with neighbouring teeth and the bite. A full-arch All-on-4 or All-on-6 bridge replaces many teeth and adds surgical, laboratory, speech, hygiene and maintenance considerations. Same-day full-arch treatment commonly means a temporary bridge followed by a definitive bridge after healing.

What a complete implant quote should separate
- examination, imaging and surgical planning;
- extractions, grafts, membranes or sinus treatment;
- implant fixture manufacturer and model;
- abutment and healing components;
- sedation or anaesthesia;
- temporary tooth or bridge and its material;
- final crown or bridge, material and number of units;
- number and timing of return visits;
- medication, transfers, hotel and exclusions;
- aftercare, maintenance and complication policy.

A realistic two-trip model
Trip one: final diagnostics, any agreed extraction or graft, implant placement, temporary solution where appropriate, post-operative review and records. Healing at home: local checks and hygiene while integration occurs. Trip two: restorative scans or impressions, try-in, final fitting, bite adjustment and a departure buffer.
