A dental implant package can be advertised as a three-day operation while the biological treatment takes months. The confusion disappears when you separate implant placement, healing, temporary teeth and the final crown or bridge.

Quick answer: many conventional implant cases require at least two clinical phases separated by healing. A one-trip promise may refer to surgery plus temporary teeth, not the finished permanent restoration. Ask for every stage and material in writing.

The short answer: Many conventional dental implant cases require two clinical phases separated by several months of healing. A one-trip offer often means implant surgery plus temporary teeth—not the definitive crown or bridge. Ask the clinic to label every temporary and final component, visit and fee.

The typical implant timeline

Stage What happens Travel implication
Assessment Medical history, examination, imaging and restorative planning Remote review can be preliminary; the final plan follows examination
Disease control Gum treatment, extraction or other preparation if required May change the advertised schedule
Implant placement The implant fixture is placed in bone; grafting may be added Needs recovery and a local review buffer
Healing/integration Bone integrates around the implant Often two to six months; usually happens at home
Restorative phase Impressions or scans, try-in, crown or bridge fitting and bite checks Frequently creates a second journey and several appointments
Maintenance Hygiene, reviews and management of mechanical or biological problems Requires a workable plan after returning home

Leeds Teaching Hospitals describes implant integration as commonly taking two to six months. Guy’s and St Thomas’ outlines several stages and says patients in its typical pathway wait at least three months before the implant supports replacement teeth. These are reference pathways, not personalised promises.

What “one trip” can actually mean

Surgery only

The implant is placed during one journey and the final restoration is completed by another dentist at home. This requires compatible components, shared records and a home dentist who agrees before treatment starts.

Surgery plus a temporary tooth

A temporary removable tooth or bonded provisional may cover the gap while the implant heals. It may not load the implant directly.

Immediate temporary loading

A temporary crown or full-arch bridge is attached soon after surgery when clinical conditions allow. It normally has dietary and bite restrictions while healing occurs.

Immediate final restoration

This is a more specific claim. Ask why it is appropriate, what the material is, how fit and bite are verified, and what contingency applies if the implant does not achieve the required initial stability.

Temporary is not a dirty word. A carefully designed provisional can support healing and test appearance, speech and bite. The problem is when a temporary bridge is marketed as though it were the definitive prosthesis, with no clear second-stage price or date.

Why bone grafting changes the schedule

An implant needs adequate bone in the correct position. If a defect is significant, grafting may happen before implant placement. Cambridge University Hospitals says graft healing commonly takes four to six months; after implant placement, further healing is needed before the final restoration.

Smaller grafts can sometimes be performed at implant placement. A panoramic X-ray alone may not answer every three-dimensional bone question. Ask whether CBCT imaging is needed, what graft material is proposed and whether grafting is included in the quote.

Single implants and full-arch cases are not the same

A single implant crown must integrate with neighbouring teeth and the bite. A full-arch All-on-4 or All-on-6 bridge replaces many teeth and adds surgical, laboratory, speech, hygiene and maintenance considerations. Same-day full-arch treatment commonly means a temporary bridge followed by a definitive bridge after healing.

Compare our All-on-4 Turkey guide and All-on-6 Turkey guide. The current planning ranges are €2,500–4,500 per jaw for All-on-4 and €3,200–5,500 per jaw for All-on-6.

What a complete implant quote should separate

Our single-implant planning range is €350–800, but a headline “implant” price may omit the abutment, crown, imaging or grafting. Use our 2026 implant price guide and price calculator to compare the same components.

Nine questions that expose a vague one-trip claim

  1. Is the tooth fitted during the trip temporary or definitive?
  2. What exact material is used at each stage?
  3. How will you decide whether immediate loading is safe in my case?
  4. What happens if the implant does not reach the required initial stability?
  5. Do I need grafting, and can that decision change after CBCT?
  6. How long is the planned integration period?
  7. Who performs the final restoration and bite adjustments?
  8. What is the full second-trip cost, including hotel and transfers?
  9. Who manages pain, loosening, fracture or infection after I return home?

A realistic two-trip model

Trip one: final diagnostics, any agreed extraction or graft, implant placement, temporary solution where appropriate, post-operative review and records. Healing at home: local checks and hygiene while integration occurs. Trip two: restorative scans or impressions, try-in, final fitting, bite adjustment and a departure buffer.

The model can change, but the written plan should never hide the healing phase. Before booking, read the complete UK patient guide to dental implants in Turkey and our guide to flying after implant or extraction surgery.

Frequently asked questions

Do dental implants in Turkey normally need two trips?

Often, yes. Many conventional plans place the implant first, allow it to integrate with bone for several months, then complete the final crown or bridge on a later visit. The exact stages depend on healing, grafting, stability and the restoration.

What does same-day teeth mean?

It usually refers to a temporary fixed or removable restoration provided around the time of implant surgery. It does not necessarily mean the final bridge is completed that day. Ask for the temporary and final materials, dates and fees separately.

How long does an implant integrate with bone?

Leeds Teaching Hospitals says the integration phase often takes two to six months. Guy's and St Thomas' describes a wait of at least three months before implants support replacement teeth in its typical pathway. Your case may differ.

Does bone grafting add another trip?

It can. Cambridge University Hospitals says graft maturation commonly takes four to six months before implant placement, followed by further healing before restoration. Small grafts may sometimes be performed with implant placement, but that is case-specific.

Can I receive a permanent implant crown in one week?

Some cases may be restored immediately, but immediate loading is not suitable for everyone and a same-week tooth may be temporary. Ask what evidence supports immediate loading in your case and what happens if stability is insufficient.

What records should the clinic give me?

Request the treatment plan, implant manufacturer and product labels, component details, scans or X-rays, operation notes, prescriptions, final restoration material, invoices and written aftercare contacts.
